Built-in Messaging in MODX

MODX has a built-in way to send messages to other Manager users, but we are not aware of many (any?) people using this functionality. Do you use it? Would it upset you if it were gone? If you’re a MODXer, please help us plan the future of MODX.

    I forgot to mention, it really does need to be there, especially if people are building more social sites. The issue is documentation.

      I think this feature can be removed! Not at least that its implementation is not very useful without getting notified on new messages!

      Probably it would be better to let users install this feature as an add-on.

      One of the features of our upcoming add-on GoodNews makes it possible to send mails to whole MODx user groups so this could be a kind of replacement too.

          Used to use it more, you know send client some info and stuff. I feel it could really use an email notification though. My point, don't strip it please.

            If my memory serves me correctly, there are no notifications and the threading of messages isn't great. I would definitely use it more often if there were some minor improvements made. I was thinking of using it on a site I'm building as a notification area for members, but it does lack some of the aforementioned functionality. Cheers. Tom.

                The current implementation doesn't offer much, so if people need it they probably need more features along the way (like the aforementioned notification for starters). I've never used it myself and think as an Extra it would be more appropriate and one of the people that actually use it could lead development on it.. :)

                  I would love to use it if it would notify the users. As it is now, it's pointless. It could be a great tool for feedback between different content editors.

                    I agree that it makes more sense as an extra. In a typical install, manager users are probably members of the same organization anyway and already have established channels of communication.

                        I also agree it could be an extra, in my experience it could be useful with medium-big companies, but they usually use other channels, as Eli wrote.

                            Never used it personaly (in approx. 7 years of MODx use) and neither have any of my clients or friends

                              I never used it - email just did it. What I would like to see is an todo and assignment tool. I usually implement a notes-tab for todos and reminders - for communication and collaboration with editors - located on the edit-ressource-screen like any other rte-tv. But this could be enhanced and more like a real tool if it would have an dashboard with overview and assignments... what do you think, is that worth an feature request?

                                I've used it on sites as a type of workflow communication and also tied into front end web forms as a personal message board between site owners and their end clients. I think there is strong use case for it especially if the features were expanded to accomidate the items noted above and a few others.

                                I'd certainly be willing to step up and take a more active role in further development of it even as an extra.

                                  Agree totally that it makes more sense as an extra. I see no point having it in the core..
