Revolution 2.3 Brings a Revamped Manager User Experience and Much More

Today we proudly announce the release of the long-awaited MODX Revolution 2.3. This is a huge release incorporating more than a thousand commits by dozens of code contributors and translators, and countless bug reporters.

Revolution 2.3 features a refined and updated MODX Manager with an all-new theme based on Peter Knight’s design. In 2.3, you can build and manage your sites faster in its user friendly and less intimidating workspace. Revolution 2.3 also introduces the überbar, which provides Manager users with global search within Resources, Elements and Users. Now, whatever you’re looking for is at your fingertips without having to touch your mouse.

We have tried our best to encourage Extras authors to make sure their Extras are compatible with 2.3, however, some may not have been tested. Before upgrading or starting a new project in Revolution 2.3, please review the list of Extras confirmed to work with 2.3.

Rod, what version did you upgrade from? We'd really like to make sure others don't have the same issues. Would you mind posting in the forums so we can help find out what happened?

            Rod -

What kind of won't load? Frontend or backend? My backend is royally messed up. As in, connectors return nothing, so no tree, no functionality... looks like this:

            Trying to debug it now.

So we tracked it down, sort of, to my dev server setup. I'm using VirtualDocumentRoots and wildcard DNS and magic, so I had to use php's auto_prepend_file, which was hosing the connectors/index.php file. I think there's a pull request in for that.

My site was still totally screwed up for reasons unknown, so I'll just restore the backup and try to track that down later. :p

                  Great work guys!

For people who have upgrade issues:
                  - Empty your /core/cache/ folder manually
                  - Don't forgot to set your manager theme to 'default' before upgrading
                  - Check if your plugins are compatible before upgrading

The cache is actually cleared as part of the installer, despite instructions to do so in the RTFM (which needs to come out).

Ive been looking forward to this for so long that I joined just so I can say thank you.

Regarding Ron's issue, I wonder if it is anything to do with browser cache? I upgraded my 2.2.14 to 2.3.0 earlier and it crashed my site also. However, I hadn't cleared my core cache, nor my browser cache. Once I had restarted my browser and cleared all the cache, my site works as expected. I hope this can offer some help if anyone else should experience similar.

There's a phpthumb bug that snuck in last minute that can cause white pages (server errors) on resources that use phpthumb (galleries, blog thumbnails etc etc). It's an issue that has been reported here: with a fix in this comment by Mike:

Okay, this seemed to fix the issue in MODX manager, but the gallery tool is still not showing phpthumbs...

Could not find out how to fix that. Anyone knows?

A huge "thank you" to everyone involved in MODX 2.3 and in all the previous versions that brought it to this point. My life and work on the web is better and more fun because of you!

Updated a site from 2.2.14 to 2.3 and the manager works fine, but thumbnail images in media browser and all the manager don´t show. They upload correctly, i can generate the thumbnails in the front-end, but don´t appear in the manager.

And this happens in a clean 2.3 install too.

That's been reported and a fix is pending

There'll probably be a patch release at the end of this or early next week to fix issues that crop up after the launch, this one included :)

Thank you! The new version looks great!

This fix posted by Mark solved the thumbnail error, but I have still an issue with "Gallery" and the management of the gallery items. I can upload images, but can't edit them or change the order.

Error log after uploading items: [2014-07-18 16:13:59] (ERROR @ /assets/components/gallery/connector.php) [Gallery] Could not create directory (possibly already exists?): assets/gallery/4/

I never had this error before. Do you know what to do?

first of all, I like the new interface a lot.

I have the same issue as described by Dracovina.
Where can I find the current version number?

You can use Cliche - with little efford in index.css of this extra, works and looks great with revo 2.3 :) I think I'ts wonderful extra, but saddly not so poppular as Gallery.

                                        Best Regards,

MODX, you guys never cease to amaze me. Great job on 2.3! Love the new logo, the fresh new look, the search bar is so helpful... can't wait for more innovative upgrades!

This is definitely an improvement. Congratulations to all who worked on this.

One area in which this is not an improvement, though, is in disability access and compliance with web accessibility standards like WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and Section 508. There's quite a bit of work to be done to make it WCAG-compliant. I have started to write a to-do list for MODx accessibility:

I hope the core development team and other contributors will be able to take this list and run with it to help make the interface more accessible.

We have several blind employees at my company who want to be able to use the manager interface, but they can't. We can change that.

                                              Nov 20, 2014 at 10:22 AM
Revo 2.3.2 - switched out the phpthumb.class.php as above but not getting thumbnails in the Modx Browser after upgrade from 2.3. Server error log throwing nothing.
                                              Any ideas please?
