It’s All About the Community

2013 will be a great year for the MODX Community—it’s what keeps us going each day. Going forward you can expect significant things to help you get more out of the Community. And should your needs require it, you can now also use some of the same tools we use to create a community of your own.

It’s All About the Community

2013 will be a great year for the MODX Community—it’s what keeps us going each day. Going forward you can expect significant things to help you get more out of the Community. And should your needs require it, you can now also use some of the same tools we use to create a community of your own.

Local & Special Interest Groups

One of the things other successful projects do well is fostering local meet-ups, conferences and camps. You should expect to see much movement on this front with the MODX Ambassador program, which means we hope to have experienced and enthusiastic local liaisons in the parts of the world where MODXers live. So far we’ve reached out to 50+ people around the world that are committed to seeing MODX grow as Ambassadors.

We’ll also have mostly-online SIGs that focus on topics important to many people in the Community like UX, e-commerce, marketing automation and security. If you think you might want to get involved with the Ambassador Program, just let us know.

Conferences, Camps & Code Sprints

MODXpo Utrecht was the first foray in years to have a conference and seeing over 170 people show up was tremendously rewarding. We heard it loud and clear that the people that love MODX really do want to play a more active role in helping shape its future and spreading the word about MODX.

We’re in the early planning stages for two more in 2013—one in the US and one in Europe. We’d love to see more happening around the world, too. If you’d like to get a feel for what a MODX Conference/Camp is like, take a peek at the MODXpo EU website and watch some of the presentations. Let us know if you’d like to get involved in the next MODXpo event, or if you would like assistance in promoting a local event in your part of the world.

Community Tools

The first overhauled release of the forum software powering the MODX Community quietly rolled out in the last days of 2012. Called Discuss, it has driven conversations and community support at MODX.com for roughly two years, with tens of thousands of users and hundreds of thousands of posts.

I hope you’ll find it useful, too. Most of all, I hope that you can help improve Discuss by participating it its ongoing development and refinement into the world’s greatest community forum software, period. You deserve a useful and usable tool that gets out of the way and helps you communicate with the people that matter. So come aboard and help define the future of Discuss.

It’s Going to be an Amazing Year

Here’s to 2013, and to spreading MODX around the world. Let’s all help ensure that CMS Critic feels as strongly about naming MODX as the Critic’s Choice for Best Open Source CMS for 2012. Please let us know what you’d like to see and what you need to be even more successful with MODX.
