Announcing Blazing-fast New Cloud Platforms

We’re excited to announce the biggest thing in MODX Cloud since its launch. In short, we’re making it more powerful and faster, starting in Washington, DC, Texas, and Frankfurt—with no extra cost. We think you’re going to love it.

Powered by a newer OS kernel, SSD RAIDs, and way more IO and scalability, you can expect faster page loads, a snappier Manager, and Backups and Snapshots up to 50x faster on our Gen2 platforms. You also get the latest PHP 7.4, 8.0, and 8.1, always-available phpMyAdmin with automatic authentication, and MaxMind GeoLite2 Country database built-in for use with store locators and language choosers (June 2022).

And if that wasn’t enough, the new platforms support Backstage™, an incredible selective content staging solution that makes proper staging-to-production workflows a reality. Backstage has completely been a game-changer for our own website, and you won’t find a selective staging solution like this anywhere else. Backstage will blow you away if you regularly collaborate on your website with others, want to make frequent site updates faster without fear of breaking your live site, or need to keep publishing articles while working on new content that will take longer. It puts a smile on my face every time I use it!

The best part is we made sure migrations are 1) as easy as possible and, 2) don’t require downtime. While Washington, DC, joins Texas and Frankfurt as the first three locations, eventually all locations will be replaced.

You can migrate from any location to any new platform, so if you currently have a site in Texas, but your customers are on the East Coast, that’s possible today with WDC.

If you want to start enjoying the new platforms ASAP, you could move, for example, from London to Frankfurt with the increased performance more than making up for a few ms of latency. And when a new platform comes online in London, you can migrate back to the original location on the new platforms, too.

To learn more about migrating, availability, or what to do to make things go as smoothly as possible, please see our KB article on the new platforms.

We can’t wait to see your sites on these awesome new platforms, performing better, serving more visitors, and being able to work on way better than ever before!
