MODX 3-beta2 Available for Testing

This is the second beta release of MODX 3. This is the last pre-release of 2021 with the first Release Candidate (RC) scheduled for January 6, 2022—time is flying toward the final release at the end of January, especially with your help.

MODX 3 brings hundreds of improvements including a new Manager and more modern developer experience.

What’s Changed in Beta2 ?

There are just a few changes in the second Beta release:

  • Change order of Directory/File menu items in tree [#15759]
  • Remove unused processor Security/User/Group/GetList [#15910]
  • Fix isBinary check [#15901]

The Release Timeline

The planned timeline for the MODX 3 releases is as follows:

  • 3.0.0-rc1 on January 6th, 2022
  • 3.0.0-rc2 on January 17th
  • 3.0.0-pl on January 31st

If necessary, another release candidate will happen on January 31st with the final 3.0.0-pl schedule two weeks later (February 14th).

Testing Help Wanted

We hope you will make time to test beta2 to confirm things work as they should. You can test in MODX Cloud or download MODX 3.0.0-beta2 to test locally. The best way to test is to make a copy of an existing site, upgrade it (and all the Extras), and let us know how it goes.

If you find any issues, please report them to our GitHub project—it’s pretty simple to do.

Please DO NOT use this version in production, as it is still not final and some sites or Extras may have issues that need to be addressed.

MODX core-contributor, Mark Hamstra, recently issued a challenge for MODX-based agencies to help us deliver on our timelines for MODX 3.

Thank you for helping us make MODX better!
