MODX Field Notes – Winter 2026

Happy New Year, everyone! Here is a roundup of what has been happening in the MODX community over the last few months.

Tools

  • MetaStorm for PhpStorm provides autocomplete for all MODX Models and Extras.
  • Speed up your site with HTML caching.
  • The MODX Elements API allows you to use the VSCode extension to create and edit elements on your MODX site through VSCode, eliminating the need for FTP.
  • A comprehensive Claude AI skill for MODX Revolution CMS development. It provides Claude with expert-level knowledge of MODX templating and extras configuration, as well as the best practices for creating professional websites.
  • Importing and exporting elements and resources with ModxTransfer.

Extras

  • The AI Content Assistant generates full pages in just a few clicks. These pages are written in your unique tone of voice and placed directly into the correct modmore ContentBlocks.
  • Preview your changes when using VersionX and Magic Preview together.
  • MODX Toolbar adds a powerful front-end toolbar to your site, allowing quick actions like editing, deleting, publishing/unpublishing, and showing/hiding resources in the menu — directly from the page you're viewing.
  • Alternate Amazon S3 Media Source for MODX Revolution, using 3.* AWS SDK for PHP.
  • Form Protection offers enhanced spam protection for FormIt through content filtering, timed submissions, and email validation.
  • Scheduler is a modified version of the original component created by Mark Hamstra, with improvements made by the modx.pro team.

Good to know

  • MiniShop3 is under development and uses VueJS.
  • MoreGallery has long supported including videos from YouTube and Vimeo, but if you prefer self-hosting your videos, try v1.18 out.
  • Redactor 3.4 is packed with new features and improvements.
  • Is your site timing out or running slow? Do you notice it running a lot faster in your local development environment? Does it especially slow down as traffic rises? Guess what? It's (probably) sessions!
  • Are you using an AI agent? Then join this discussion.
  • Are you an expert in managing z-indexes? Share your knowledge in this discussion.
  • Did you know that MODX has a wish list of new features?
  • Prevent booked Cursus dates from being accidentally deleted via the Agenda CMP.

Support

  • We are also looking for monthly backers and agency sponsors on Open Collective to support open-source development.
