Our mission at MODX Cloud is to provide the best possible environment for creating, maintaining and hosting modern high-performance websites. Today, we’re happy to announce you can now switch between PHP 5.6 and PHP 7.1, in any of your Cloud instances.

PHP 7.1 brings a host of benefits for developers over 5.6. Site owners and visitors will see dynamic pages to generate in half the time (or less), and handle 2-3x the number of visitors. So your sites in MODX Cloud get a turbo button and serve a lot more visitors, practically for free (you do have to log in and enable it).

Switching between PHP versions is super simple. Click a toggle in the Cloud edit view and you’re done. Read the complete instructions or login to try yourself.

Before switching to the latest version of PHP, it is important to consider that some MODX Extras, MODX versions prior to 2.5.4 and other software may not work. We recommend testing your site in a separate Cloud instance before turning on PHP 7 on your live site.

Millions Rely on MODX

In 2005, MODX could power a fully mobile-responsive website using HTML5 and CSS3, even though those technologies weren’t invented yet. And with MODX today, you’re ready not only for what you need now but also what comes next.
